Natural Herbs For Health – Essential Oils

Aromatherapy is the use of organic essences of aromatic plants for healing and maintaining vitality. Essences are also known as “essential oils” or “concentrated smells”. These oils are naturally found in tiny sacs in different parts of plants: flowers, leaves, bark, berries, stems and roots. The Use of essential oils has been proven to lower stress levels, aid relaxation and when used in conjunction with massage, help the repair of muscles and joints.

There is no need to buy expensive formulas when you can use individual herbs to produce the desired effects at a fraction of the cost. You can improve many areas of your life through the correct use of quality herbs, diet health and relaxation to name only a few.

You may notice that many herbs have more than one popular use.

This is because plant remedies tend to stimulate the whole system as well as having a primary effect on particular area(s). Plants and humans have evolved together over millions of years so it should come as no surprise that plant should have such a potent effect on us throughout history.

Using herbs for personal enhancement produces balanced, healthy results without risking the use of artificial man-made chemicals. It also helps us to feel we’re getting back to Nature, which provides a huge boost in itself!

During these uncertain times, getting another virus, flu, or even the dreaded Swine Flu or H1N1 virus would be devastating to some and even deadly to others. Protecting ourselves as best we can may prevent us from catching any one of these viruses and make our lives much more safe and enjoyable. Essential oils are
one great way to use natural sourced products for prevention and protection from viral, bacterial and airborne contagions. In this article you’ll learn how to use the essential oils and other tips to help keep you healthy, happy and strong.

I think it’s so important to take good care of our own health and be responsible for our own well-being. By taking these simple steps, it could save your life!

Step 1.

http://yellowstaressentials.wordpress.com/2009/10/03/essential-oils-to-help-prevent-h1n1-swine-flu-and-flu-viruses/

Wash your hands frequently, and every time you use the bathroom. (Better yet, would be washing your hands before and after using the bathroom as many others do not and may leave unwanted germs on doorknobs, faucets, etc.). Keeping your hands from touching your mouth, nose, face, etc. as much as possible may help as well, but isn’t as easy as it sounds, so carrying a gel sanitizer with you is great idea. You can make a natural version of this too that won’t dry your skin with alcohol.

Step 2.

http://www.snowdriftfarm.com/gel in hand.jpg

To make an easier version of the natural hand sanitizer; just blend up to 10% dilution of the essential oil RAVINTSARA into aloe vera gel and use it whenever needed. I wouldn’t use any more than a 5% dilution if it’s for children 2 or under. You can also alternate RAVENSARA and RAVINTSARA whenever possible for adults. I wrote another ehow article on How to make a non-drying hand sanitizer with essential oils and aloe gel if you’d rather use that.

Step 3.

Also it would be wise to purchase a home, work or room diffuser. These are very beneficial as they can help purify the air you are breathing. A wonderful blend for your diffuser to help prevent flu, viruses, Swine Flu or H1N1 would be;

Ravensara, Ravintsara, Tea Tree and or Lemon Tea Tree, Lavender, Lemon Myrtle, Cedarwood, Pine, Lemon Eucalyptus, and Cinnamon Bark.

Do not use this blend on skin as it may burn or cause sensitization. It’s best for diffusion or diluted with purified or distilled water for a countertop spray.

It also would be wise to alternate different essential oils so you’re not using the same one over and over (you may make yourself immune to its properties with overuse of one specific oil). Other oils you can use are Thyme Linalol, Eucalyptus smithii, Thyme Thujanol, Eucalyptus Lemon, Lavendula Angustifolia, Clove, Cinnamon leaf and other anti-bacterial or anti-viral essential oils.

Step 4.

Regularly clean all home surfaces and countertops. The above blend would be ideal for a countertop spray diluted with distilled or purified water. (or a mixture of any of the above essential oils). Just add about 25 total drops to 16 oz. of water, shake and use.

Step 5.

Use natural anti-virals whenever possible; like drinking green tea, cranberry juice, eat garlic and stay away from chocolate, honey, dairy products and bananas as they are mucous producers and are detrimental foods when trying to avoid a flu or viral contagion.

Step 6

Take good care of yourself by eating right, getting enough sleep, exercising and surrounding yourself with nature (plants are nature’s air filters). Don’t forget to take a multi-vitamin, maybe some extra Vitamin C, Zinc and try drinking herbal teas.

Following any or all of these steps would be very beneficial to you and your family as well as those around you in preventing viral infections, flues and other contagious maladies.
www.rosecole.com – Holistic nutrition coach, Rose Cole, shares how to use essential oils for health. Various essential oils have been used medicinally at different periods in history. Medical application proposed by those who sell medicinal oils range from skin treatments to remedies for cancer, and are often based on historical use of these oils for these purposes. Such claims are now subject to regulation in most countries, and have grown more vague to stay within these regulations. Interest in essential oils has revived in recent decades with the popularity of aromatherapy, a branch of alternative medicine which claims that the specific aromas carried by essential oils have curative effects. Oils are volatilized or diluted in a carrier oil and used in massage, diffused in the air by a nebulizer or by heating over a candle flame, or burned as incense, for example.

Hair can define your image and style but it is also a mirror of your health. Emotional or physical problems can soon result in a lack of bounce or shine. Keeping hair in peak condition is a combination of caring for it on the surface and nurturing it from inside with a well balanced diet.

Scalp Massage Oils

Dry hair is rough to touch, thick in texture and dries out at the first sign of heated rollers or tongs. Avoid chemical colorants and perms and opt for shampoos and conditioners with jojoba and almond oils. Hot oil treatments allow essential oils to soak in easily and condition the hair. After massaging warm oil into the scalp, wrap the head in a warm towel and leave on for half an hour.

Oils for dry hair : Rose, Sandalwood, Ylang-Ylang, Lavender and Geranium

Greasy hair tends to look dull, lank, lacks body and won’t hold a style. Central heating and environmental elements aggravate the condition but it can stem from a hormonal imbalance. Check your diet and avoid harsh degreasing shampoos. Clean brushes and combs weekly. Plastic brushes are better for brushing through as bristle continually stimulates the scalp. Choose light conditioning rinses to detangle but try a scalp massage to regulate the oil-producing sebaceous glands.

Oils for greasy hair : Basil, Eucalyptus, Cedarwood, Chamomile, Lemongrass, Cypress, Sage and Rosemary

Normal hair is glossy with plenty of natural body and bounce. An occasional hot oil scalp treatment will keep it looking good and growing healthily.

Oils for normal hair : Geranium, Lavender, Lemongrass and Rosemary

Combination hair has ends that are dry or normal and the roots are greasy. Avoid using hot appliances near the scalp and keep the ends regularly trimmed and conditioned. Use a scalp treatment with oils fro greasy hair but don’t comb through to the ends.

How to Mix

Base oils : Choose from sweet almond, apricot kernel, avocado, jojoba, evening primrose or sunflower.

Essential oils : for one scalp treatment, choose up to three oils and use five drops of each for two tablespoons of base oil. Warm the blended oils by placing the container in a bowl of boiling water, and then massage into the scalp. Wrap with a hot towel, leave for 15 minutes and then shampoo.

Hair Problems

Dandruff

There are two types: dry and the more common oily. It is not catching! It can be caused by factors such as chemical body changes, stress, poor eating habits or wrong application of hair products. Both flakey and dry scalps can be treated with essential oil. Use special dandruff shampoos and conditioning rinses and treat the scalp by gently massaging with oils to suit. Use a base oil formula with patchouli and tea tree. For a dry, itchy scalp try cedarwood and lavender.

Grey Hair

Grey hair is more porous and needs extra conditioning, particularly if it is chemically treated or colored. Use a scalp formula for dry hair adding essential oil enhancers like chamomile to lighten or sage to darken any discoloration.

Hair Loss

Hair coming out in handfuls is often due to a hormonal imbalance, stress or anxiety, so the first step is to learn to relax. Any unusual thinning patch should be looked at by a trichologist but, as a general remedy, use a scalp massage with lavender and rosemary oils.
